Hello Good People!
As you can tell from the title above, ya girl is recapping 2018. I wanted to do something a little different and re-cap the music of 2018. How cool is that huh? I’m featuring the STANDOUT ARTISTS of 2018 that popped off heavy! I’m even going to feature a playlist so you can get ya groove on, New Years Eve! Let’s go, let’s jump into it!
To kick off this post, we are taking it to New York City and talking about our breakout star; Cardi B. She has had one hell of a year don’t ya think? She dropped her debut album Invasion of Privacy, which did phenomenal numbers and personally I liked EVERY song on the album. She had fire hits with Bruno Mars on the remix of Finesse, gave us Bonnie & Clyde vibes when she hopped on her hubby’s track Motorsport. She didn’t just capture our attention with her dope ass music, but she SLAYED all the fashions. Every event, every red carpet, and award show.. sis brought her A game. She melted our hearts and we crowned her the hardest woman working in 2018 when she performed VERY pregnant at Coachella. If you don’t think that was enough, add new mom to the list. She gave birth to her first child; beautiful baby Kulture. Cardi B. is for sure 2018 break out superstar and I can’t wait to see what she accomplishes in 2019.
From New York City, we are taking it to London to catch up with the beautiful Ella Mai. Ella Mai the social media phenom who caught the eye or should I say ear of super music producer; DJ Mustard. Ella Mai signed with DJ Mustard a few years back in 2014, released a few songs off her mixtape which were fire, but nothing compared to her infamous single Boo’d Up which went straight to the top of the music charts. Mai followed up with an equal fire ass record Trip, so fire there was brief controversy when fellow music singer Jacquees re make of the song caused major issues with DJ Mustard. Through all the controversy and mixtapes; Ella Mai finally released her much anticipated debut album. Her album was certainly worth the wait; hits on top of hits. Ella Mai had such a dope 2018 year and reminded all of us to never give up on your dreams because you never know where your opportunity will come from!
AY 6 God, what up?!!!! Drake of course dropped his dual album and had everyday party, brunch, club going up summer 18′. I mean literally every song off of Scorpion was fuego… give a take a song or two, but for the most part Drake album was extremely solid and I myself enjoyed all the marathon twerking sessions. All summer Drake had us “In our Feelings” asking “Nice for What”. I know for sure he is going to come even harder 2019, and lets see if he peace up and resolve issues with Kanye West, if he can do it with Meek Mill then I’ll keep hope alive for Kanye.
Let’s go to NOLA BABY!!! New Orleans hometown hero; Lil Wayne came back swinging! Man, I was so surprised and so happy. Finally, after years of a “forced hiatus” Wayne released his studio album, which did not disappoint. Hopefully in 2019 Lil Wayne will go on tour and bring Carter V alive on the big stage!
Last but certainly not least… who else but THE CARTERS!! Beyonce’ and hubby Jay- Z literally snatched our edges when the dynamic duo released their second album together. The album, the visual, the fashions, just everything was beautiful and BLACK AF and if you didn’t think we were grateful enough just for new music, they gave us an American and European tour of OTR II. Beyonce’ and Jay- Z set the bar extremely high, I mean they are the standard. No one can and will ever deliver the way these two deliver. They are a force together, but don’t sleep on the them separately they will demolish any and everyone. Must I remind you, when Bey headlined Coachella as the very first Black woman and she shut that shit all the way down. Then Jay graced us with a feature on Meek Mills album on the song Free, which had us at all ready to riot. 2018 hands down were the year of THE CARTERS!
That’s all folks! I just want to take the time to sincerely thank ya’ll for rocking with me. Listen, ya girl sometimes is all over the place, but ya’ll have been hanging in there, tuning into every post and the support doesn’t go unnoticed. This year I jumped over so many hurdles with this writing thing, I pushed myself outside of my comfort zone and I really showed up and showed out. I sit and smile and think about all the victories I had this year in 2018 and I’m beyond excited to see what 2019 holds. After this amazing year I had with my writing, I know for sure 2019 is going to be MAGICAL! Grab a glass of champagne and let’s toast to a bomb ass 2018 and an even better 2019. Buckle up… It’s going to be a hella of a ride!
Til’ next year…
Love and Light,
